Byron, Lord George Gordon

Friday 10th April 2009

Byron, Lord George Gordon (22nd January 1788 – 19th April 1824), 6th Baron Byron. It would be an impertinence for me to write of Lord Byron, & his life is well covered in numerous books! Essentially he was a great poet, but equally famous for his sexuality of all types! Having served as a regional leader for Carbonari, the Italian revolutionary group against Austria he devoted his attentions to Greece. His importance was not what he did, but more what his fame & infamy brought to the cause around the world. There is no doubt that without him it is unlikely that the necessary funds would have been raised for many years, but there is no evidence that he was the great “warrior king&rdqou; he believed himself to be.
