Kallergis, Col Dimitrios. (1803–1867) A Cretan military commander who led a force of 1,600 against 11,000 of Ibrahim Pasha’s men at Methoni near to Navarino. Fortunately many of his troops were rescued by the late arrival of Mavrokordatos. Subsequently as a General he led the Kapodistrian troops especially in the revolt of 1831 on Poros. He remained as a senior officer much involved with politics, & was one of the leaders of a bloodless coup in 1843.
